HOW TO MAKE THIS NON GREASY WHIPPED BODY BUTTER RECIPE
Let me just preface this by saying don’t let the emulsifier scare you if you have never used one before or if you think emulsifiers are only for skincare that include water. You can use an emulsifier as a thickener and texturizer in different skincare products.
And, because this is DIY skincare that you make at home, I like to try out different ingredients to see how they work, and if they work. I’m a bit of a skincare risk-taker. I also love to add shimmer and glitter to my butter like I did in this Vanilla Latte Body Butter, you should definitely try it out.
To make this non greasy whipped body butter recipe you will combine your butters, oils, and emulsifiers together, then melt them down. Do a little freezing and whipping then add in the rest of the ingredients.
Sounds easy right? Now, let’s go into more detail so you can create your own jar of this amazing whipped body butter.
Prepare Oils Ahead!

Just a few ingredients
EQUIPMENT
TOOLS TO MAKE NON GREASY WHIPPED BODY BUTTER RECIPE
BODY BUTTER TOOLS
KITCHEN AID HAND MIXER
I have several hand mixers but his Kitchen Aid hand mixer is one of my favorites! The accessories are easy to remove and it has a lock-in place cord.
CUISINART MIXING BOWLS
I use mixing bowls like these for the majority of my DIY skincare. They are sturdy, and come in various sizes, and are freezer safe.
PYREX MEASURING CUPS
I love using a glass measuring cup when measuring my ingredients! This one is a staple in my kitchen and I have a separate one for making DIY Skincare.
FARBERWARE DOUBLE BOILER
This is the perfect double boiler for melting butters. It’s stainless steel, easy to clean, and heats ingredients evenly.
STORAGE CONTAINERS
These are great jars to store body butter! They come with small spatulas as well as labels for easy labeling.
WHIPPED BODY BUTTER INGREDIENTS
There are a lot of different natural butters you can use to make body butter. And, the final product can vary based on which body butter you choose. The butters below are the ones I chose for this non greasy whipped body butter recipe.
CUPUACU BUTTER
Cupuacu Butter comes from the AMAZON rainforest. How cool is that, we get to use something from the AMAZON rainforest in our skincare? It’s very emollient, hydrating, and won’t clog the pores. If you want a non-greasy butter this is your butter.
KOKUM BUTTER
Natural butters that are light and non-greasy are what you should consider looking for when making a non-greasy whipped body butter. Kokum Butter is just that, light and non-greasy.
It absorbs quickly into the skin, without leaving behind any residue and it is filled with antioxidants to help repair the skin. It’s perfect for this non greasy whipped body butter recipe. I highly recommend using it in your DIY haircare recipes as well.
Carrier Oil
Using a carrier oil helps with making your body butter creamy. For this non greasy whipped body butter recipe.
I used an infused oil, that is a combination of Sweet Almond Oil and Pumpkin Seed Oil infused with Rose Petals and Calendula Flowers. This combination is amazing for glowing skin. But feel free to use sweet almond oil and pumpkin seed oil without infusing.

EMULSIFIER
Cetyl Alcohol
Texturizing This Non Greasy Whipped Body Butter Recipe
When most of us hear the name alcohol we immediately think of a drying agent. But, cetyl alcohol isn’t drying at all. It’s actually a fatty alcohol that has emollient and thickening properties.
Creating a body butter that glides onto the skin easily is what you get when using a fatty alcohol like Cetyl Alcohol. That’s one of the main reasons it’s included in the ingredient list for this non greasy whipped body butter recipe.
CORN STARCH
Corn starch is a thickening agent that helps to give this body butter its fluffy texture. It also helps to absorb excess oiliness hence the non greasy feel of this whipped body butter cream.
Another thing I like about using corn starch in body butter is that it doesn’t compromise the hydration of the body butter. Arrowroot powder can also ways be used as a substitute for corn starch.
Arrowroot powder was used in this DIY SHIMMERING BODY BUTTER. The shimmering body butter recipe is excellent to wear for a night out on the town.
Tips
- Experiment with different scents to customize your signature scent.
- Customize the texture by adjusting the amount of cetyl alcohol and corn starch.
- To prevent contamination always use clean, dry hands when scooping out your body butter.
VITAMIN E
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant. It protects the skin from environmental damage and it has the ability to help prevent premature aging. Now that’s my kind of ingredient.
In body butter, it helps to extend the shelf life of the butter by preventing it from going rancid.
FRAGRANCE OIL
Fragrance Oils add a nice touch to body butter. They are completely optional but if you love wearing a nice scent then you should definitely add one to this non greasy body butter recipe.

What is the difference between lotion and body butter? The main difference is that lotion is usually made with a large percentage of water. Whereas body butter is made mostly of butter and oil. Most lotions also have a thinner consistency than a thicker body butter.
Do you leave body butter on or wash it off? Body butter should be left on the skin. Body butter is a skincare moisturizer and should be used like lotion or any other body cream.
Can you use body butter on the face? Yes, some body butter can be used on the face as long as the butter and ingredients used to make it are non-pore clogging. If using on the face keep in mind that a little goes a long way.
