CUPUACU BUTTER

There are a ton of different butters you can use in a lip balm recipe. Some of them include Shea Butter, Mango Butter, and Murumuru Butter just to name a few.

But, for this particular beeswax lip balm recipe, I decided to switch it up and use cupuacu butter. Cupuacu Butter is a medium textured butter. It replaces the mixture of shea butter and cocoa butter that I used to make a different TINTED LIP BALM which you can watch me make HERE.

Cupuacu butter is whitish to ivory in color, has very little smell and is very moisturizing. You can learn more about cupuacu butter in this post about 5 Must Have Natural Butters.

But when I tell you this is the perfect natural butter for lip balm I am not joking. I love the feel of cupuacu butter in this lip balm. It keeps my lips moisturized for quite a long time, which is nice.

JOJOBA OIL

JOJOBA OIL IN LIP BALM

Jojoba oil is another DIY skincare ingredient that reminds me of my childhood. It seems like every skincare product that my mom purchased contained jojoba oil and for good reason.

Skincare Tip!

Jojoba oil is very similar to the oils your skin produce. In addition to using Jojoba Oil in lip balm try using it as an after shower body oil. Want an After Shower Body Oil that is already scented? One of my favorites is this SESAME SEED BODY OIL the scent is delightful.

Jojoba oil is a lightweight carrier oil that is very similar to the oils that our skin produces. This makes jojoba oil an excellent carrier oil to slather on the body. You can even use it by itself without adding it to a lip balm.

CASTOR OIL

CASTOR OIL IN LIP BALM

Castor Oil is a great carrier oil to use in a lot of DIY skincare recipes, especially lip balms. I like adding it to a tinted lip balm because it seems to help suspend the color in the lip balm.

You can check out the 9 Must-Have Natural Oils For DIY Skincare post to learn more about why castor oil is so great for DIY skincare recipes.

BEESWAX IN LIP BALM

NATURAL BEESWAX FOR LIP BALM

Beeswax is produced by none other than honey bees. You might already know this but you might not know that it’s natural, organic, and it’s great for holding together lip balm.

If you are not a fan of using animal products in your skincare then candelilla wax is another option you can use. I enjoy using both.

If you have time you can always test them both out by making two different lip balms with each type of wax to see which one you prefer.

LIP BALM FLAVOR OIL

Applying this strawberry vanilla lip balm brings back fond childhood memories of when I would apply my favorite strawberry lip balm. The taste was amazing. I mean I didn’t eat lip balm as a kid but you could certainly taste the flavor.

That’s exactly why I chose a Strawberry Lip Flavor and Vanilla Lip Flavor for this lip balm. Instead of adding one lip flavor, I added two. Plus, if you have read any of my other blog posts like this Vanilla Latte DIY Whipped Body Butter Recipe, then you know I believe you should be customizing all the DIY skincare and haircare that you make to meet your own needs.

That’s why you will find two lip flavor oils in this beeswax lip balm recipe. You can use one flavor or blend your own custom flavor, it’s completely up to you. The goal is to make a moisturizing lip balm home remedy to heal dry lips.

EQUIPMENT FOR MAKING LIP BALM

8. Pour your liquid lip balm mixtures into the lip balm tubes and let them set.

9. Once they have set they are ready to use.

SUBSTITUTIONS

You can substitute several ingredients in this beeswax lip balm recipe. If you prefer not to use beeswax you can use candelilla wax instead.

If you want to use a butter other than cupuacu butter, I recommend either shea butter mixed with cocoa butter or mango butter and cocoa butter.

Lastly, because we all love different flavors you can use whatever flavor of scented lip oil you like.

Applying this lip balm is easy. Start with clean dry lips. Apply the lip balm by sweeping it over your lip a few times until you are satisfied with the moisture level. Reapply as needed.
