Homemade DIY Hibiscus Face Mask Recipe

  • 1 1/2 tsp Hibiscus Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Colloidal Oatmeal
  • 2 tbsp Greek Yogurt
  • 1/4 tsp Rose Water

WHAT IS HIBISCUS POWDER

Hibiscus powder comes from the flower of the hibiscus plant which is a beautiful tropical looking flower. The hibiscus flower can be found in multiple varieties and it comes in multiple colors.

The smell of hibiscus flowers can range from no smell at all to being lightly scented, a bit sweet, and a little tangy smelling. The hibiscus powder I used for this hibiscus face mask recipe has a nice light, sweet and tangy smell.

You can use Dried Hibiscus Leaves, Hibiscus Powder or you can make your own hibiscus powder if you want to be creative when making this hibiscus face mask recipe.

If you truly are feeling a little bit adventurous, make your own homemade hibiscus powder. It’s a pretty simple process. All you need is a little motivation, hibiscus flowers, and a Mortar and Pestle.

To make hibiscus powder, first gather your hibiscus flowers, then sit them out in the sunlight to dry out, next using a mortar and pestle crush them up until they are in a powder form.

You can now use your newly created hibiscus powder to make this DIY hibiscus face mask recipe.

BENEFITS OF HIBISCUS POWDER

As you can probably tell by now the hibiscus plant is not only good for making tea it’s also good for making homemade skincare face masks. It has so many benefits for both the inside and the outside of the body.

Here are just some of the benefits that hibiscus offers when used as a face mask ingredient.

  • Hydrating: Hibiscus has some amazing hydrating properties which make it an excellent face mask ingredient if you have dry parched skin
  • Anti-aging: It contains alpha hydroxy acids which help with cell turnover, skin rejuvenation, and reducing the appearance of fine lines.
  • Reducing Hyperpigmentation: With continued use, hibiscus can help even out the skin tone and fade dark spots due to its exfoliation abilities.
  • Anti-Inflammatory: Hibiscus can help soothe inflamed and irritated skin due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

USING YOGURT IN A FACE MASK

If you’ve always thought that yogurt was just for eating, I have quite a surprise for you, it’s not. Yogurt is an excellent skincare ingredient to make homemade face masks and it has a ton of skincare benefits.

BEST TYPE OF YOGURT FOR A DIY HIBISCUS FACE MASK RECIPE

For homemade skincare, all yogurt is not created equal. To get all the benefits that this hibiscus yogurt face mask has to offer use unsweetened, full-fat, plain Greek yogurt.

Greek yogurt is a great exfoliator. It contains alpha hydroxy acids which help with cell turnover, brighten the skin, and make the skin feel soft and smooth.

Other ingredients in Greek yogurt include probiotics and proteins. Probiotics can help soothe inflamed skin. Proteins help to repair and rejuvenate the skin as well as improve skin elasticity.

BENEFITS OF YOGURT IN HIBISCUS FACE MASK

  • Anti-aging: Nutrients in Greek yogurt can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Exfoliating: Because yogurt is rich in lactic acid when used on the skin it can help remove dead skin cells, ultimately revealing brighter healthier looking skin.
  • Moisturizing: Lactic acid which can be found in Greek yogurt helps to hydrate the skin which in turn leads to more moisturized skin.
  • Soothing: Yogurt contains natural fats and probiotics which can help to soothe irritated and inflamed skin.

WHAT IS COLLOIDAL OATMEAL

Colloidal oatmeal brings back childhood memories. It was the first thing my mother reached to give me relief from my dry, itchy skin as a child.

Although my skin grew up like I did I still find that it’s an amazing ingredient to add to homemade face masks. Colloidal Oatmeal is basically finely-grained and milled oatmeal.

It has both soothing and therapeutic benefits when used in skincare. It is effective at relieving redness and irritation.

I have used it many times for skin irritation, rashes and to soothe my sometimes dry skin. Using colloidal oatmeal in this homemade hibiscus face mask will definitely help to soothe the skin.

ROSE WATER

If you love roses then you will probably love rose water. I absolutely love all things roses, all different colors and the smell gets me every time. Rose water comes from rose petals it is a fragrant liquid that is obtained through the process of distillation.

I even use Rose Water Hydrating Mist to refresh my skin throughout the day. It’s heavenly. If you haven’t tried using rose water I highly recommend it. Rose water has many benefits to offer when used in skincare below are just a few of the benefits.

BENEFITS OF ROSEWATER

  • Balancing: Rose water can help balance your skin’s pH level. A balanced pH level helps to control oil production and acne breakouts.
  • Anti-aging: Preventing fine lines and wrinkles can be accomplished by using rose water since it’s hydrating and moisturizing and can improve the elasticity of the skin.
  • Cleansing & Toaning: You can use rose water as a toner and cleanser as it has mild astringent properties.
  • Healing: If you are prone to acne using rose water can help to heal and improve the appearance of acne scars. It’s able to heal the skin because of its anti-bacterial and anti-septic properties.
