BODY BUTTER vs BODY BUTTER STICK
BODY BUTTER
Lots of people have heard of body butter. It’s sold in most of the bath and body stores that you can find in your local mall. But, if you have never heard of body butter let me explain. Body butter is a thick, creamy product that is usually made from natural butter and oils. Butter that it can be made from includes, MANGO BUTTER, shea butter, KOKUM BUTTER, and MURUMURU BUTTER to name a few.
The main purpose of body butter is to nourish and hydrate the skin. It works by creating a barrier over the skin that locks in moisture and prevents water loss. Body butter is usually thick and can sometimes be greasy. Basically, it can be too greasy for some people depending on the ingredients used. This is where I think body butter sticks come in handy.
BODY BUTTER STICK
A body butter stick is basically body butter with all of its same hydrating and moisturizing elements but in a stick form. Meaning, it’s not in a jar but in a push-up stick container. Also, most time the ingredients in regular body butter and stick body butter are different.
When making a body butter stick you normally add ingredients that will give the body butter stick a more firm texture. Almost like a lip balm texture. Therefore making it glide onto the skin super easy. Also, because body butter sticks have a firmer texture they’re easier to travel with and won’t melt as easily as regular body butter if the environment gets really hot!
SHIMMER STICK
Now that I’ve explained the difference between body butter and a body butter stick. You might be wondering what’s a shimmer body butter stick. A shimmer body butter stick is a moisturizing stick of body butter that has ingredients in it to add a shimmery glow to your body.
I will shed more light on this shimmery ingredient a little further along in the post. But, it’s safe to say that a shimmer body butter stick is magnificent!

CUPUACU BUTTER
Cupuacu Butter is a lovely butter. It is native to the Amazon of South America. Like most natural butter, it’s extracted from the seed of the cupuacu tree. If you are looking for a rich and emollient butter to try outside of this body stick recipe, I highly recommend CUPUACU BUTTER.
Other DIY skincare that it would work great in include, body butter, lip balms, and BODY SCRUBS. Basically, this is a non-greasy butter, that is very moisturizing and has natural anti-oxidant properties.
SHEA BUTTER
Shea Butter is a super popular natural butter. It’s a fatty butter that comes from the Shea Tree indigenous to West Africa. Additionally, the Shea Trees produce nuts which the SHEA BUTTER is then extracted from.
This natural butter has many wonderful uses. In addition to being a great addition to DIY skincare and haircare products, it is also great for cooking.
For this recipe, refined shea butter is used. Refined shea butter goes through a process to remove the butter’s natural yellow color and nutty scent. Using shea butter that has been refined allows you to add fragrances or essential oils without the interference of the butter’s original scent.
SUNFLOWER OIL
When using oils and butter in DIY skincare it’s important to choose products that offer maximum skin benefits. Sunflower oil is one such oil. Additionally, choosing oils high in fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants is a plus for the skin.
Sunflower oil contains Omega 6 fatty acids and is rich in vitamins A, C, D, and E. It’s light to the touch but very moisturizing. It absorbs easily into the skin and has anti-inflammatory properties. If you have sensitive skin, sunflower oil could work for your skin. It won’t clog the skin’s pores and it is an anti-inflammatory.
BEESWAX
Beeswax is a natural substance produced by honey bees. In skin care it is used to provide skin-enhancing properties, proved texture, and improve product stability. Additionally, it is very emollient and helps soften and soothe the skin.
Other benefits of using BEESWAX are that it is an anti-inflammatory, it won’t clog the pores and it helps protect the skin from environmental damage.
